Adding -ly
Many adverbs of manner come from an adjective plus -ly. These words tell us how an action happens. They usually describe the verb, not the noun.
- Example: She spoke quietly.
- Example: He worked carefully.
Quick Rule
- adjective + -ly -> adverb
- use the adverb to describe the action
If the question is How?, a regular adverb is often the answer.
