Phrasal Verbs Without an Object

Intransitive phrasal verbs do not take a direct object. The verb and particle stay together, and the meaning works without an extra noun. These verbs often describe movement or routine actions.

  • Example: I get up at six.
  • Example: The thief ran away.

Quick Rule

  • no object is needed after the phrasal verb
  • learn the verb and particle as one unit

If the phrasal verb stands well on its own, it is probably intransitive.
