Phrasal Verbs Without an Object
Intransitive phrasal verbs do not take a direct object. The verb and particle stay together, and the meaning works without an extra noun. These verbs often describe movement or routine actions.
- Example: I get up at six.
- Example: The thief ran away.
Quick Rule
- no object is needed after the phrasal verb
- learn the verb and particle as one unit
If the phrasal verb stands well on its own, it is probably intransitive.
