Grammar notes

Some Verbs Want To (Verb Pattern: Verb + To-Infinitive)

Some verbs are followed by to + verb.

Common examples are want, hope, need, decide, and promise.

The first verb opens the door, and the infinitive walks in after it.

  • Example: I want to buy a new toy.
  • Example: She decided to call her friend.

Quick Rule

  • verb + to + base verb
  • do not use -ing after these verbs here

If the first verb is one of these, to is a very good friend to invite.
