Some Verbs Prefer -ing (Verb Pattern: Verb + -ing)

Some verbs are followed by a verb in the -ing form.

This happens after verbs like enjoy and often after stop when you stop an activity.

The first verb chooses the shape of the next one.

  • Example: I enjoy reading in bed.
  • Example: He stopped talking.

Quick Rule

  • verb + verb-ing
  • do not add to in this pattern

Some verbs simply like the -ing outfit better.
