Why Did You Go? (Infinitive of Purpose)

Use to + verb to show purpose.

It answers the question Why?

This pattern is very common when one action happens in order to do another action.

  • Example: I went to town to buy bread.
  • Example: She called me to ask a question.

Quick Rule

  • action + to + verb = purpose
  • it often answers Why?

The infinitive points forward to the reason.
