Grammar notes
Should for Advice
Use should and shouldn't to give advice or say what is a good idea. It is weaker than a rule and more like guidance. The verb after should stays in the base form.
- Example: You should rest.
- Example: We shouldn't spend so much.
Quick Rule
- should + base verb for advice
- shouldn't + base verb for negative advice
It is the grammar of a helpful suggestion, not a hard order.
