Past Simple Passive

Use the past simple passive for finished actions in the past when the focus is not on the doer. The form is was / were plus a past participle. It is useful for events, changes, and historical facts.

  • Example: The window was broken last night.
  • Example: These houses were built in 1990.

Quick Rule

  • was / were + past participle
  • use it for finished past actions in a passive sentence

The event happened in the past, but the object stays in the spotlight.
