Grammar notes
Who Gets the Thing? (Indirect Objects: Word Order)
Some verbs can take two objects: the thing and the person who gets it.
English often gives you two possible word orders.
Both are useful, so your ear should get comfortable with both.
- Example: Give me the book.
- Example: Give the book to me.
Quick Rule
- person + thing -> give me the book
- thing + to + person -> give the book to me
Same message, two roads. English is polite enough to offer both.
