Use these for things near you and those for things farther away. Now we talk about more than one thing, so the words are plural. Think: one step close = these, one step far = those.

  • Example: These are my keys.
  • Example: Those are tall trees.

Quick Rule

  • these = near and plural
  • those = far and plural

If you can count more than one, call these or those.
